Escondido Specialty Coffee: A VoyageMIA Exclusive
We’re honored to share that VoyageMIA recently spotlighted Escondido Specialty Coffee in a feature article! Our CEO, Milan Sljivich, had the opportunity to discuss our journey, challenges, and vision for delivering exceptional specialty coffee from farm to cup.
Here’s a glimpse into what they wrote:
The Journey Behind Escondido
Milan began by recounting his leap from the corporate world to entrepreneurship:
"I spent 10 years in the corporate world with Nestlé and Keurig Dr Pepper, when I decided to go after my dream of owning my own business. That experience gave me the skills and confidence to stand up this company, set up the operational infrastructure, and build relationships with all types of customers and consumers. I saw an opportunity to start importing coffee from our family’s farm in El Salvador and set up operations here in the U.S."
Milan launched Escondido in November 2023 with a vision to manage the entire coffee production process, from cultivation and roasting to direct sales. This vertically integrated approach ensures unmatched quality and sustainability, solidifying Escondido as a trusted name in the coffee world.
What Sets Us Apart
VoyageMIA highlighted Escondido’s commitment to sustainability and community-focused practices:
"We grow our own crops, process them at origin, and roast them in our facility in Little River, Miami. Owning the entire value chain ensures exceptional quality and promotes sustainable farming that benefits our team and the lands we cultivate."
Escondido offers flexible options for coffee enthusiasts and businesses alike, including:
- Retail bags (12 oz)
- Wholesale options (2 and 5 lbs)
- Private label roasting services
- Catering services
- Green coffee for bulk orders
This flexibility allows us to serve diverse needs, from coffee shops and restaurants to passionate home brewers.
Challenges Along the Way
Milan didn’t shy away from discussing the challenges Escondido faced as a newcomer in a competitive market:
"It has not been an easy road. Being new in a market with many competitors made it difficult for us to stand out. But by bringing the best quality coffee, professionalism, and prioritizing customers, we’ve established our place."
Education has been another focus for Escondido. Specialty coffee is often misunderstood, and helping consumers recognize its value is a key priority.
Advice from Milan
For budding entrepreneurs, Milan shared practical wisdom:
"Getting started is key! Don’t wait for the right moment—it will never come. Start, keep pushing, and make quick, confident decisions. Focus on your goals, and don’t be afraid to change course when needed."
