3 Simple Mistakes That Could Be Ruining Your Coffee
Share
Sometimes, it's not the coffee—it's the way it's brewed. Even with high-quality beans, a few small mistakes can make your cup taste bitter, weak, or flat. Here are three easy things to check.
1. You're Using Water That's Too Hot
Boiling water can over-extract your coffee, creating bitter flavors. Instead, let your water cool for about 30 seconds after boiling. The ideal brewing temperature is around 195–205°F (90–96°C).
2. Your Coffee Isn't Fresh
Freshly roasted coffee offers the best aroma and flavor. Try to buy coffee with a roast date and store it in an airtight container away from heat, light, and moisture to keep it tasting its best.
3. You're Not Measuring Your Coffee
Eyeballing your coffee-to-water ratio can lead to inconsistent results. A good starting point is 1 gram of coffee for every 16 grams of water, then adjust to match your taste.
Better Coffee Starts with the Basics
Great coffee doesn't require complicated equipment, just a few good habits. Paying attention to your water temperature, using fresh coffee, and measuring your brew can make a noticeable difference in every cup.
